The Ètārētia Porotetani Māòhi (Māòhi Protestant Church) in conjunction with the Moruroa e tātou Association have embarked on a journey of Truth and Justice by facilitating a 4 day Seminar based on ancestral renewal known as “te tau o te Hinapaarae”.

With the goal to equip and embolden the Hui Aito, the Young Warriors who stand for their people and justice in Māòhi Nui, the seminar aims to educate and provide them an array of ‘nuke’ related content, build their understanding on the topic, the history, the actors and reflect on their role in healing a fifty year old wound.

A main feature of this inter-generational event is the introduction of major Maohi Nui advocates and community leaders to speak on key issues like land issues and decolonization, military function in Māòhi Nui, and of course the Nuclear legacy in Māòhi. One such advocate is Hinamoeura Cross

Hina was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2013. She, like many of the descendants of Moruroa have been told that their conditions had no connection to the 55 French atmospheric nuclear tests and the 137 underground tests conducted between 1966 and 1996.

“We have a responsibility to share with the world and those outside of our home about our history.”

For close to a decade now, the government of Maohi Nui have been calling on the French government to conduct an independent study on the generational impacts of the testing after citing a spike in various forms of cancer developing in those present during the tests and a marked increase in the number of births post 1974 presenting debilitating genetic conditions and complications both pre and post-natal.
She like many in Maohi Nui have lost many loved ones often with no real solace. She saw many family members diagnosed with cancer and advocates for better health care and facilities on the island as many have been forced to seek treatment in France.

and become the catalyst to launch a new generation of youth activists who will stand for their community. This might not only be restricted to
Nuclear Justice but also on other struggles the community is facing. This is their/your time; youth have
their/your seats and roles in this society and your/our role is to empower them to take the lead towards
