WEST Papua’s struggle for dignity and an end to human rights violations has been highlighted at the World Council of Churches general assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Pacific youth took to the stage on Friday to raise the issue.
Wearing Free West Papua shirts, they sang of and spoke about human rights abuse by Indonesia and its security forces for more than 60 years.
Delegates heard about institutionalised discrimination of Papua’s people through state-sponsored initiatives.
An Ecumenical Youth Gathering brought young delegates from around the world together to share issues of concern.
The Pacific Conference of Churches has facilitated the attendance of the WCC assembly by 15 regional young people.
