THE Pacific has landed in Karlsruhe, Germany, ahead of the World Council of Churches general assembly.
A group of 10 young people from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Maohi Nui (French Polynesia), Kanaky (New Caledonia), Samoa and the Solomon Islands will perform songs and dances at the event to highlight issues faced by the Pacific.
Climate change, political independence, gender based violence and nuclear fallout are some of the issues which will be raised.
A second group will speak at Pre-Assembly gatherings and Assembly plenaries and workshops.
A third group of young people will support the WCC as Assembly advisors and stewards. This is part of the Pacific Conference of Churches’ capacity building for young regional leaders.
The heads of several Pacific churches are expected to attend the meeting with the theme – Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.
